Behind the Scenes at Gardening Scotland 2017
Well that’s it for another year. We had sunshine, great crowds and gorgeous flowers. Thank you to everyone – visitors, exhibitors, sponsors and a great team of volunteers – for making Gardening Scotland 2018 a success.
There were so many highlights across the weekend that’s its hard to single out one, but we must give a special mention of the schools and groups who created such vibrant Pallet Gardens; to the musicians who played so brilliantly, including the two members of Preston Lodge High School Pipe Band who ended up in the hot tub and to The Secret Gin Garden for getting into the spirit of the event with their exciting new range of drinks.
A very big thank-you too goes to Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance for dropping in. It’s great to know that this fast-acting emergency service is on hand should we ever need its help.
Over the course of the weekend hundreds of afternoon teas were served up and thousands of plants were sold. There were full houses in the IKEA Live Lagom Theatre and lots of enthusiastic mini gardeners enjoyed sowing and growing in the Dobbiles Little Seedlings Club sessions in the Tunnocks Big Back Garden.
And of course prizes were given out to growers, gardeners, designers who proved themselves to be the best in the business.
Louis Wall was named Gardening Scotland Gardener of the Year for his work in reviving station gardeners across South West Scotland and William Pollock won the Young Gardener of the Year title for turning his passion for gardening into a thriving career. We’d like to say a big thank you to Caulders Garden Centres for providing prizes for both of them.
Meanwhile Law Primary School and Eats Rosyth 1 took top spots in the SGF Pallet Garden Challenge sponsored by Ross & Liddell. And you cast your votes too, voting for Chrysanthemums Direct in the Sunday Post People’s Choice Award for the best floral exhibit and Dundee and Angus College in the ‘I Dig It’ Award for their ‘Sea Cliffs and Inland Glens’ Show Gardens.

So that’s it. The nurseries have packed up and headed home and the show gardens have been dismantled.
Now it’s time to start planning for Gardening Scotland 2019, so put the dates of Friday, 31 May – Sunday, 2 June in your diary and come back and join us again. We are counting the days already.
We do hope that you were able to join us at this year’s event but if, for any reason, you missed it, we hope to welcome you next year.
